Rosehill Let us walk the Green Corridor Where the ground is soft and the air is pure, On Terrace Road there’s an open door And Rosehill’s there to be explored, Yeah, Rosehill’s there to be explored. Between Townhill and Swansea town A wild green garden can be found, Where Nant y Graig springs from the ground Into nature’s adventure playground, Yeah, nature’s adventure playground. Can you hear the herring gull cry? And the magpies nesting way up high? Woodpeckers, blackbirds, wrens and crows Is how this quarry’s symphony goes, Is how this quarry’s symphony goes. But don’t forget its history Don’t forget its past The stone hewn from this very quarry Was used to build this town. The noise, the clatter of iron on the rock, Drills and dynamite, The work on the hill for Pennant Sandstone Still scars this very site. The quarry was levelled, but didn't give up Reborn as Rosehill tennis club, Where Mike Davies played, with a pearl white ball Wimbledon finalist, six foot tall Yeah, Wimbledon finalist, six foot tall. For twenty years the brambles climbed The quarry slept, slipped out of mind But people woke and began to fight Assembled a team to put things right. The dole boys came for their training year To forge new paths, and to clean and clear They brought new life with their toil and sweat Rosehill renewed with each young step. Let’s unwind on the cockle shell path Around and around on the labyrinth, June eighty seven they first made their mark Which brought new life to Rosehill Park, Yeah, brought new life to Rosehill Park. So when you next walk the Green Corridor Cast your mind back to what came before, On Terrace Road there’s an open door And Rosehill’s there to be explored, Yeah, Rosehill’s there to be explored. I can see the factories, I can feel the heat. I am breathing in the flames, I taste the hot air on repeat. I can hear explosions they are booming in the distance, and I feel scared but this is what I’ve got to do to fill my pockets up with change The Miners are Mining, The Furnace is Smoking, The Hammers are Crashing, It’s just another day, The trains are running, The Steam is rumbling, At the iron works , its just another day The ground, it shakes beneath my feet, As the cold red stone of the factory, Keeps explosions under control Over and over, I can feel intense heat on my face, I see tired, hungry people working, With the rats under their feet The Miners are Mining, The Furnace is Smoking, The Hammers are Crashing, It’s just another day, The trains are running, The Steam is rumbling, At the iron works, its just another day

Morio Mor, o fore Gwyn tan nos, Yn cysgu’n ysgafn tu ol y Castell, Yn canu grwndi yn y bore bach, Ac yn cyfarth efo’r cyfnos. Mae swn y tonnau ym mlas y te, A halen yn hogla’r glaswellt, A lliwiau yr enwyn ar erchwyn y traeth, Yn llygaid y llanc ar ddiwedd y bar, Na wyddost ti rioed mo’i enw. Morio canu, morio crio Morio caru, morio colli, Morio codi dy ben i fynnu, A morio byw bywydau.

This Tree, This Man There’s a broad tree in a garden, its branches are tied with red It stands for those we loved, and those we lost As the trees grow green and taller there are some who can forget but the ones that came before know the fight, know the stand, we took. You could walk through this field and never ever know The things happened here, not so long ago You could walk by this tree and close your eyes instead, To the things it's seen, the lives that have been, the paths that have been tread. There’s a tree in another garden with roots deep in the earth thousands of us have walked right past, our minds full of shame. But underneath the greenest branches we love and dance and drink, we raise each other up we raise our heads and hearts we march for lives to come and lives since passed We raise our heads, we raise our hearts, we march for lives since passed. But you can walk these trails now, in a new and greening world you can walk past this man, walk past that man, never know the roots he put down. You could walk through this field and never ever know The things happened here, not so long ago You could walk by this tree and close your eyes instead, to the things it's seen, the lives that have been, the paths that have been tread. You could walk through this field and never ever know The things that happened here, not so long ago You could walk by this tree and close your eyes instead, to the things it’s seen, the lives that have been, the leaves turned green, the joy it’s seen.

Sunbeam Sublime Sunbeams who crash as the world lashes out, What I see is crippling me. The sunbeam lights up as I pray one more time, Sublime, honey, sublime Sublime, this Welsh church of mine. Trawstiau haul sy'n chwalu wrth i'r byd bylu, Yr hon a welaf yn fy llethu. Mae'r trawsthaul yn goleuo wrth i mi weddio, Serol, cariad, sanctaidd Serol yw fy eglwys cymraeg. Though you're not fancy, quite tidy I walk again on your straw, You never close the door, Yew branches bend over, They worship your altar While saints bow like nobody ought to. Alright On The Night It’s Saturday night in Maesteg Town, Footsteps are shuffling on stone, There’s a dance at the local town hall, That the miners built for us all, Two tickets please sir, who’s on tonight? there’s a lad from ponty you’ll see He sings all the classics, sinatra & Elvis It’ll cost you 40p It was where we went for a good time, It was where we went for a pint, And when life got too busy and the pressure ran high, It’ll be alright on the night. Its at the heart of the town, and this town’s in our hearts You'll have a tough time if you weren’t from round here There would be music and dancing, even boxing & wrestling And carols to spread Christmas cheer In the war it was home to the wounded, at the heart Maesteg’s home front, And the building’s never lost its lift giving power, We sang all night as a result So we’ll stay in the hall for the evening, Where the barmen were busier than ever, And the bouncers who didn’t take no messing, Made sure it’s alright on the night You’ll hear the sound of excitement as the young people dance, And the shouts as the fighting breaks out, And the various choirs perfecting their art, Singing out “Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau”

Creigiau Top Deiniolen Pwy oedd yn tynnu’r hen gyrtans yma? Berwi’r teciall, a bwydo’r gath, A rhoi lwmp o lo Arall Ar yr hen, hen dan? Just fel ddoe, a fory, a fory Wedyn. Dyddiau’n troi’n wythnosau, A ti’n anghofio pa fis ydi hyd yn oed, ond Sbia lawr ar deiniolen i gyd o fan hyn, Teimlo fath a bod ar nenfwd y byd yn fan hyn, Distawrwydd pur, a heddwch o hyd yn fan hyn, Mae ynysu mor braf yn yr heulwen. Pwy oeddet ti? Yn sdyc yn y ty ‘ma, Yn darllen yr un hen newyddion undonog Ar y dudalen flaen? Ar goll yn dy unigrwydd, A dy ddiogrwydd. Dim band, dim cor, Dim dawnsio dim mwy. Dyddiau’n troi’n wythnosau, A ti’n anghofio pa fis ydi hyd yn oed, ond Sb a lawr ar deiniolen i gyd o fan hyn… Pam fod hi mor mor braf i ddod i ddianc yma? Be di’r pethau da ni’n osgoi?

I Have A Story I have for you a story, of people bold and brave They’re leaving their lands, they’re leaving their homes to travel across the waves. I have for you a story, of people strong and proud they’ve left their homes and found a new land they’ve weathered the storms so loud. This land is new and alien, and the ground doesn’t look the same It’s frightening to be such a long way from home, but those feelings they will tame. The system is so daunting, there’s red tape in every square but of each and every strange building there is one that’s always there. When first she stepped through those doors, she found it all too much but years have passed, its changed her now, new growth from that caring touch. These doors are a hidden gateway, to build a brand new life these walls contain the chance, if only for an hour for people to escape their strife. Though their land is far away, they can travel the sea and sky with every song they sing and with every dance they bring back to their home they fly. When you’re cold or lost or hungry, to your parents you hold out your hand your mother will feed you, your father will clothe you there’s a family for you here in this new land. There are floors, walls and windows, there’s a roof like every other one but behind the bricks and stone happens something much more rare in each room will rise the sun. I have for you a story, of people so bold and brave They left their lands, they left their homes for a new life, everything they gave.
